The relevant index references to 'Indians' and 'Indian Affairs' for the years 1818 to 1852 have been extracted and are listed below. The references lead primarily to petitions directed to the Indian Commissioners and to annual reports of the Commissioners, plus related appendices.

Appendix no. 16
Report "on the condition of the Micmac population in this Island" [i.e. Cape Breton] by Edmond Dodd and H. W Crawley. The report judges "the general appearance and habits of the Indians, in which there is decided improvement" states that their "former erratic mode of life and dependence on the produce of their hunting and trapping are already greatly circumscribed," suggests implementation of school rooms, agricultural improvements, protecting reserved lands from "Scotch Presbyterian settlers," and condemns invasion of settlers on reserved lands and the impunity of the government in this matter. Includes expenditures under Indian Commission, that lists names of recipients, reasons for expenditures, and amounts.

This report summarizes and verifies the reports of Dodd, Crawley, and Howe, recommends a renewal of the grant of last year, and regrets "to learn that encroachments have been made …upon the lands of the Indians, and recognize the propriety of proper legal steps being taken to punish and remove the intruders."
