The International Schooner Race

Within two weeks of the 1921 victory, The Maritime Merchant published an article on the triumph, emphasizing the importance of the event and already identifying the Bluenose as an intangible symbol for Nova Scotia: "One of the first effects that naturally comes to one's mind is the advertising value to the port of Halifax, the Lunenburg fishing industry and the Province of Nova Scotia from the enormous amount of publicity which the race received in all parts of Canada and the United States…. It is difficult to appraise the value of a thing of this kind…."
