Reply of the Lt.-Governor to the address of the Assembly of 14 Jan. "The claim of the House of Assembly stated in their Address relative to new Writs of Election appearing to be subversive of the powers vested in the Governor, by His Majesty’s Royal Commission and Instructions, it is my duty to submit the Subject to His Majesty’s Government in England. When differences of opinion arise between the several Branches of the Legislature, the ultimate resort is to the King, from whom we all derive our powers; But such differences do not authorise asperity of sentiment or expressions."
