"I serv'd in the Royal British Artillery Twenty Years and Eleven days and out of that I was six years on the Peninsula and the last Action I was in was Waterloo and it grieves me much to think I have had such such (sic) good luck to escape so many balls and now to come to Nova Scotia and be murdered by a Villain and no law no Justice."

1152. Nathaniel White to his brother Cornelius,  on public and private matters. "You have probably heard of the three easy chairs which our right liberal Legislature have vouchsafed to bestow upon the hungry profession. The Province is divided into 3 districts & a law-bench [?] to be appointed to preside over the Inferior courts & sessions in each with £500 a year. The county of Annapolis is annexed to Shelburne & they form a district over which 'tis thought my old master Ritchie will preside. This measure will occasion a great overturn in the jurisprudence & municipal regulation of the country & has met with much opposition chiefly I think because it benefits the Profession." Holograph.
