White (Mrs. Gideon Jr.) to her brother-in-law, Cornelius.  She wishes he were in Shelburne "to assist us in passing off some of the gloomy hours off this Winter, doubly so in this unsociable Town which I think is worse in that respect at persent that I ever knew it, you will then say it must indeed be bad; as it was always famed for disagreements & a great deal of form and ceremony among the inhabitants; the Society is small, but might be very pleasant were it not for the Ridiculous party spirit that prevails." Holograph.

1085. 1. John Van Horne to Gideon White, asking him to certify that he knew the writer's father, Gabriel Van Horne, as an officer in the 4th battalion of N.J. Volunteers, and to obtain a similar certificate from Jacob Vanbuskirk.  These certificates are necessary before Van Horne can write the Lt.-Governor and petition for his father's half-pay. 1092. Sarah White to her brother Cornelius. Family matters. She has been busy with her duties as secretary of the Female Religious Society. "This Society was set on foot by the Revd. John Sprott a presbyterian Missionary who came here to visit Mr. Dripps & congregation, it is called the Female Religious or penny week Society no subscriber being at Liberty to subscribe more or less than one penny a week." Episcopalians, Presbyterians and Methodists all belong to the Society. She asks her brother for a donation. Holograph.
