Lunenburg by the Sea

Note the horseshoe on the parlour door in the background. It appears to have been hung incorrectly, since popular folk tradition dictates that to catch and hold good luck, the heel should be inverted. Such beliefs were indicative of the numerous superstitions and 'folkways' held by many of the original settlers. The family group may be that of Edwin Bailly, a well-known Lunenburg blacksmith.
