"I also put Johnstons Letter into the hands of Temple Piers & had a long Conversation at the time, he said he had no objections that Johnston should build or do anything else - but he would not accede to his proposals if he should never get a farthing." "I don't know why I did not Mention My prospects in loading the Tweed last - without it was the tiresome Song sung continually at that time of the ruinous voyages made to the West Indies by people all Arround us - but I, finding so many of our Vessels went to Jamaica after trying Demerara & all the Windward Islands, And the Many that were discouraged here in shipping - I thought I might have a chance at Berbice or Demerara - where we dispatched her on our own Acct with 700 Qtls Codfish 100 bbls Flour 30 bbls Beef 50 Mackarel 50 Alewives 30 Oil 25 Onions - 2 Hhds Claret Wine & some Staves, shingles & lumber -" He sends articles, which he lists with prices, to Shelburne. "I must now open your eyes respecting Nats situation and am sure of Your Sympathy - This night week Nat gave himself up to the Jailer on an Execution from Creighton for £250 or there-abouts - he has had all the big folks to see him & several offers to relieve him but he will not accept of Any until he hears from Creighton -" Holograph.
