''From a pencil sketch by a brother officer when at Halifax, Nova Scotia.'' Hardy wrote and illustrated Sporting Adventures in the New World (1855) and Forest Life in Acadie (1869) about his time in Nova Scotia.
Harry Piers wrote in Hardy's obituary,1919, that Major-General Hardy ''was a notable man who had taken the deepest interest in this province, and who did much through his writings to draw the attention of sportsmen and naturalists to this field.''
