Report of committee on Hugh Auld’s petition. They find "that the salt spring rises in a meadow which often overflows so that it will be necessary to convey the water in close leaden pipes to the upland which is 32 rods distance which will be attended with considerable Expence that the works when completed will be of great utility to the settlements adjacent the Committee is of opinion that the sum of £50 be granted to the Petitioner, he giving security to the acceptance of his Excellency the Lt.-Governor that the said sum shall be faithfully expended." Resolution of the House with regard to applying again to the Lt.-Governor for more explicit information as to the Treasurer’s accounts. That which was finally transmitted to the Governor is the most conciliatory. The last tactful includes the following paragraph, crossed out: "that whatever reason his Excellency the Lieut. Gov. may have for being satisfied as to the security of a Balance of above ten thousand pounds, which should now be, in cash, in the Treasury (allowing the full amount of the Treasurer’s statements of warrants on which the House forbear at this time to comment) the House have none; but on the Contrary great Cause to feel the force of the Suspicion universally prevailing that the Publick Monies have been unlawfully applied to private purposes. Though the House feel that it is incumbent on them to provide adequate revenue for the Support of His Majesty’s Government they are impressed also with a sense of Duty of guarding what has been already raised from their constituents, and there being already the accumulation of two whole years Revenue they are "determined to see a Suitable Appropriation and security for the present Balance before they agree to continue Impositions on those they represent." The other draft and the final resolution are almost identical, with no significant changes.
