Piers note: No. 223. Ives Point Battery: Casemates: Laboratory and Barrack Casemates Numbers 1, 2 and 3, for nine men each; with Battery above for two R.M.L. Guns (the right one now enclosed in shed); below to right is brick Artillery Store for Small Arms. Height of Casemates, 17 feet 6 inches, per rod. Looking South-southwest, from inside. Compare with No. 102 which is dated 1873. It is similar, but not same as No. 285.
