Many Nova Scotian communities have experience at least one devastating fire in their history. “The Great Fire of 1897" occurred in Windsor on Sunday, 17 October.
A strong northwesterly gale of almost hurricane force unfortunately aided the fire. Cinders fell as far away as Shubenacadie and smoke was visible seventy miles away.
