George Spicer to Levi Atkins; 28 September 1904, New York, 2 pages. The Glooscap arrived with a cargo "worth over 1/4 of a million" but needed repairs, which would be done in Hoboken (New Jersey); she was leased to J.F. Whitney & Co. as a cargo carrier, but the Spicers still had to finance her maintenance and repairs, and the carrying trade was in a downturn --- "there is no business … no Freight so its discouraging to say the very least I feel kind of sick to see a fine ship (and She does look fine) & nothing for her to do …"
