Petition of James Carty of Annapolis, asking for reimbursement of sum expended in repairing a causeway over and above sum granted by Government for that purpose. Signed. Overleaf. Oath sworn by Carty to the truth of the above. Certificate, by 29 subscribers, that the work could not have been done well at any less expense.

24 November 1808

Petition of James Gautier (two copies), stating that he has been in the service of the province 23 years, as clerk to different Secretaries, and Clerk of the Council. "That he continued to be a Clerk to the Secretary of the Province, until the appointment of Samuel Hood George Esq. to that Office, at which time your Petitioner was deemed on Account of his Age, which is now Sixty-six years, and the infirmities natural to that Period of Life, unfit to discharge any longer the Duties of that Station; And the same infirmities which incapacitated him from performing those Duties have also rendered him unable to continue his attendance on His Majesty’s Council as their Clerk. That your Petition hath carefully preserved all the Records and Papers committee to his Custody during the time he held the Offices above mentioned, and by his care hath preserved the Records of the Titles of Property from falling into the Confusion liable to be occasioned by the changes of Secretaries and hath delivered over to a Committee of His Majesty’s Council every Paper and thing whatsoever belonging to the above mentioned Offices, and in his Custody at the time of his removal therefrom That the removal of your Petitioner from the Offices he held, hath left him entirely destiture of the meaning of procuring the common necessaries of Life." Asking for relief.

Petition of John Morehouse, asking for special consideration with regard to receiving drawbacks on duties. He was not entitled to the drawback legally allowed because he had not cleared the cargo at the office of any Collector or Comptroller of the Customs. He gives as excuse that "There is no Office of Impost and Excise at New Edinburgh, which is at the distance of more than twenty miles and Your petitioner could not have traveled to Digby without causing great delay and hazard to his Voyage undertaken to Bermuda which was very urgent." He encloses documents to prove his statements. Overleaf. "Granted."

Lt.-Gov. Sir George Prevost’s message concerning the repairs he has ordered to be made to the new Government House. Signed.

Memorial of Michael Wallace, asking compensation for his labours as commissioner for building the new Government House… "your Memorialist devoted his whole time daily, early and late, for more than Eight Years, (when his official hours as Treasurer of the Province did not require his attendance), in Superintending and directing the various duties incident to a Work of such Magnitude in this country, with that Zeal and fidelity the trust required, which has never been questioned to his knowledge." On the completeion of the work he stated his account for a commissioner of 5% on £21,000 which the Assembly "passed over ad referendum to a Committee." Asking that his claim be considered. Signed. Report of the committee of the House on the account of John Howe & Son, recommending that an extra £100 be granted them for printing 1000 books of Instruction for the militia, and £50 besides for their services occasioned by the extra meeting of the Assembly. Signed.
