Residences of Military People

Piers note: Residences of Military People, etc.: Houses of wood and of brick, nos.199 to 211, east side of Pleasant Street, between South and Morris Streets, Halifax (opposite to the Waverly House). In 1879 there lived there, left to right, nos.211 and 209, Robert D. Clarke and Miss Carry Church (boarding-house); nos.207 and 205, Henry P. Burton and Ruben I. Hart; no.203, James Thomson; no.201, Hon. William B. Vail; and no.199, Thomas A. Ritchie. Then there is a space, behind which was Sir Edward Kenny's house; and beyond that, at right, can just be seen no.(?) William Hill's. At extreme left is bit of James McLeod's confectionery shop. Photographed in winter, between 1870 and 1881. Looking Southeast from Northwest corner of Pleasant and Morris Street.
