Piers note: No. 282. Naval Magazine, to North of Naval Hospital: Caretaker's Lodge (of wood, with hipped roof), to left, and Guard Room (of "ironstone" masonry, old) to right, with Entrance from end of Upper Water Street to extreme left. The little building in middle foreground, is a Latrine. To extreme right is seen a bit of the northern wall of Hospital Grounds, begun in spring of 1808. Alongside the Lodge is a staff on which was hoisted a black ball, as a danger signal, when explosives were being shifted. On other side of Campbell Road is seen Wellington Magazine, and south wing of Officers' Quarters, Wellington Barracks, is over the Guard Room. Taken about 1882. Looking Southwest, towards Wellington Magazine, from shore to Southeast of Magazine Wharf.
