The Prat Sisters: Free Spirits of the 1890s

"Won a gold [silver] medal" : clipping from unidentified newspaper, celebrating Minnie Prat's medal for bookbinding at the Paris Exposition, 1900

Article mentions the books for which Minnie won her award, including one with an embossed design of wheat and poppies. (See William Bradley, The Book of Ruth and The Book of Esther (New York, 1897), bound by Minnie Prat in 1899.) The article states that the other book "had a lotus design in blind tooling." Both books were illustrated in the 1900 Harper's Bazaar article on the Prat sisters, "Book-binding as a Fine Art." It is not known if the book with lotus design is still extant.

Date: 1900
