Legis Legum Doctor Lieutenant Governor and Commander
in Chief in and over His Majesty's Province of
Nova Scotia and its Dependencies &c &c &c [a.]

The Petition of John Nowlan
Humbly Sheweth
That about six year's past on your
Excellency's visiting Saint Mary's Your Excellency
was pleased to call into Nicumquodie the Eastward
of Beaver Harbour where Mr. Lawson lives &
finding your Petitioner & his Wife an Indian
with a large young [Family - written above so insert here] in poor Circumstances tho.
neat and clean You was pleased after Viewing
their little Improvements to give Petitioner an
Order on said Mr. Lawson for Bread Pork & Salt
which they received. & now return their sincere
thanks for Your Excellency at same time
[strictly?] ordering Petitioner on his first Arrival
in Halifax to wait on you for which he
presents himself before your Excellency

Therefore Relying on your Excellency's
Tenderness for his large Family Most
humbly Prays your Excellency to grant
him a Spot of Land between Col. [Hales's]
& [Nicumteau?] to assist him in supporting
them & with such necessaries & Supplies as may
protect them from the Inclemency of the
[coming?] Season as to your Excellency may Seem
[meet] And Petitioner will Pray


John Nowland is married to a Mi'kmaq woman and they have a large, young family. Also includes Letter from Hurlihy [?] and Cunningham to Wentworth regarding a petition for Mi'kmaq relief.
