reply __ But as my friendly note dated 26th, Jany. which concludes with a request that if [there] [?was OR were]] anything connected with the Secretary's Office to which I [desired] to call his attention I would drop him a line addressed to [?your] [illegible] presented an opportunity to make one more attempt to bring the case of the poor Indians into notice as well as to [?revive] the [?recollection] [illegible - crossed out] of [?those] subjects that seemed to have sunk into oblivion _ I therefore reminded him [that - written above so insert here] in a note dated 30th Octr. [of - crossed out] the [?Tidewaiters] Warrant [on] the [fee] thereon [had] been mentioned and in another dated 21st. Decr. the application of the Indians [to] [have] their lines traced and that the Salaries of the Officers of the Mines were not paid _ No answers came and my hopes sank to the former level __

If nothing better can be done for our Indians, tracing their lines by order of Government might enable them to defend their [landed] [property] _

Since writing my note of the 28th. March I have seen the act which places at His Excellencys disposal £250 for surveys of [new - underlined] Roads [about to be opened - underlined] in Cape Breton __ This does not relate, I presume to the Roads in my list, most of which are
