[Dear?] Sir
Although I felt in the first instance , some
apprehensions of the weight of the legal opinion respecting [hardship? OR kinship]
I had little doubt but that if the case were taken under consideration
[illegible] [with?] difference between the [ pampered?] partner in a productive
[?illegible] and the [worn?] up [drudge] on a Lot of Land but partially
[?redeemed] from a state of nature would turn the balance in
[?favour] of the poor Widow- In the case of Hugh McLean
[?my] intention was by stating certain precedents , to remove any
objection that the general Rule might have raised in His
[?Honor's] mind - I shall therefore put the warrant into
[?operation] - Before I return the Petition of the Revd.
McKeagney, [?Papist OR Parish] Priest , may it not be as well to inform
His Honor that the Petitioner did not comply with the 3rd Act.
[?The] directions contained in the Regulations issued from the
Secretary's Office 8th. May 1827; in which it is stated that His
[?Excellency], having no longer authority to grant land upon the
[?usual] terms , applications for land would not be received, and
[?that] persons neglecting to lodge their fees at the proper offices
[?previously] to the 1st. Jany. 1828 would not be permitted
