'An East Coast Port': Halifax in Wartime, 1939-1945

Crowds on the Garrison Grounds to Greet the King and Queen

The Halifax Mail,, 19 June 1939, p. 1, proclaimed "You Enjoyed It Once! Why not use this extraordinary Halifax asset again and again?" The caption informed readers "A section of Citadel Hill showing crowds during the visit of Their Majesties. This natural amphitheatre, according to newspapermen who followed the Royal Tour across the Dominion, is unequalled anywhere in Canada."
