'An East Coast Port': Halifax in Wartime, 1939-1945

Unnumbered envelope, Halifax Riot Aftermath The Halifax Mail, Wednesday, 9 May 1945, p. 6, reported the mass of rubble in Agnew Surpass Shoe Store and noted, ". . . it is hard to realize what goods were sold there. Shelves are completely empty. Counters, empty boxes and broken chairs are piled about in the shop forming a solid obstacle to those who are attempting to walk about the store."
