The Halifax Chronicle, 1 May 1943, p.16, reported the estimated damage of $50,000 casued by an early morning fire at William Robertson and Son Limited, ship chandlers and wholesale hardware merchants. The two-alarm fire burned furiously for two hours before city firemen subdued it. However, three hours later, the interior of the bulding was almost completely burned and thousands of gallons of water were still being poured on it.
