          Annapolis 29th Octr 1778
Sir

          You will please proceed
to Cape Breton, or where necessary
in quest of a rebel Spy that has
decoyed away two soldiers, & in
general in quest of Any Deserters
that you may come up with –
Using every Endeavour for the purpose
- You will take the party of
Soldiers under Your Command –
And all his Majesty’s loyal Subjects
& Magistrates are required to Give
you every Assistance. I am
