McAlpine's Nova Scotia Directory 1890-97 includes an advertisement for James Roue, page 90. James Roue, manufacturer of Ginger Ale, Lemonade, and Soda, was located at Wood's Wharf, Halifax. Wood's Wharf was located near the bottom of Salter Street. The Roue family papers include two manuscript books of recipes for making soft drinks, ginger ale, soda, and chocolate syrup. Most recipes are not dated although no. 3 has one dated 1912 and no. 4 has a number dated 1893, 1897-1899, 1901-1905, 1908 and 1915.
