Census of Canada 1890-1, vol. 1 (Ottawa, 1893), p.xii and pages 20-35
The Census of 1891 was the first census to ask the enumerated about their houses. The nominal lists identify each householder’s building material of house (wood, stone, or brick), number of storeys, and number of rooms. The published census provided the statistics for the province, for each county in the province, and for each census district in the county.
