A Master's Draft was a contract for money loaned to a ship's master to cover necessary expenses during a voyage; it was similar to a promissory note and was a form of insurance on the vessel and its cargo. In this case, the loan was for £2120.s10.d6, advanced to George D. Spicer, master of the Glooscap, by J.&C. Moore & Co., New York, 28 February 1900; and fell due ten days after arrival in Melbourne, Australia. It was cleared by the Bank of Australasia, Melbourne, 28 June 1900.
