Memorial of Committee of Merchants to Assembly. They have petitioned the King's ministers, stating the distressed situation of N.Scotian merchants caused by free trade practised illegally between the United States and the West Indies. Favourable answers of ministers made nugatory by removal of so many fishermen and their families to U.S., where conditions are made more favourable by bounties etc. Committee prays Assembly to grant similar aids.

Message from Lieutenant Governor to Assembly in answer to their address. States that the difference between the sum drawn in warrants by him and the Treasurer's balance remains in cash and securities (to obviate inconvenience of removing cash from circulation) until all grants of Assembly have been subtracted from it.
