Resolution of the House for granting £400 to be drawn if necessary by the Governor for the repair of roads and bridges in case of unforeseen accident to any of them. Signed.

Petition of John Newton to the Lt.-Governor, stating that he has held the office of one of the Collectors of Impost and Excise for Halifax since 1758, and is too old to continue in it; he asks that some provision be made for him, and his large family. Signed. Message from the Governor to House, recommending that House make Mr. Newton some permanent allowance.

Report of the committee on the petition of James Ewing and other Halifax merchants, recommending that credit be extended three months on all bonds due, and hereafter duties be made payable in the following proportions: ¼ in 6 mos., 1/4 in 9 mos., ¼ in 12 mos., and the rest in 15 months. Signed.

Report of the committee on the accounts of the Collector of Excise at Liverpool, that it was impossible to state the accounts, due to lack of vouchers and large sums charged for drawbacks not certified by the commissioners of the revenue.

Report of the committee of conference with the Council on the subject of roads and bridges; (message from Council to House). If the House persist in sending each separate road vote the Council will pass only those concerning which they have information convincing them that the grant is necessary (i.e. those included by the Governor in his schedule?) and on condition that clauses 5, 6, 7, 8 of the Appropriation Bill be omitted. (The clauses referred to lay down the "mode of contracting and paying for the repair of Roads and Bridges"…and tend "in the opinion of H.M. Council to impede the Service they were meant to promote.") Council insist that a uniform rate of compensation be adopted for commissioners for the building and repairing of road all over the province. They suggest that the members of the House and Council be exempted by law for acting as commissioners. (Draft)

Order that House will not "Pass any Account for the Expenditure of Money on Roads & Bridges or Vote Compensation to Commissioners unless the Account was rendered to the Treasurer of the Province before the Committee of Public Accounts shall have made their Report each Session."
