William Sabatier to Wilkins. Success of solicitations of Committee of Trade, who have kept three objects in view: Protection of coasts, procuring convoys for trade and securing interests of colonies in case of treaty between Great Britain and United States. Their plan for protection is to receive ministerial consideration; solicitations of London committee of merchants trading to northern colonies have obtained convoys; Mr. Atcheson (Sec'y of London committee) able to convince Commons that they should prohibit importation of foreign fish into the West Indies. Committee lay before Assembly nine acts of Parliament, four of which were solicited by London committee; calls attention to No. 6 "by which the British colonies are now able to extend the whole of their importations to and from each other and indulgence, as is also that of trading to the Mediterranean without touching at an English Port often solicited by, but never granted to the old colonies."
