25 February 1786
Richard Cumberland to the Committee of Correspondence. Thanks for the Assembly's vote of thanks and payment of his past salary. His satisfaction with the attention to the whale fishery. He hopes that the West India trade is opening. Advises applying through him for a grant of about £1500 for new churches. Suggests supplying the West Indies with coal from Cape Breton. Thinks a Chief Justice will soon be appointed for N.S. Requests a list of sawmills set up in 1785, and return of quintals of fish exported. More frequent letters and full details would be appreciated. Signed.
