He was first appointed to his office in 1797, after which he gave his account for services annually, "until some Years ago when the late Secretary (Mr. Wentworth) thought it unnecessary to receive Your Memorialists annual Account, after which he discontinued submitting it, but continued to receive payment annually for his services up to the 27th June 1807. That agreeable to the Vote of the Honble. House at their last Session, wherein they grant the Adjutant General a certain sum of Money for defraying the expenses of this Office, this Gentleman will not be authorized to pay him for any past services, but only for those of the ensuing Year commencing in December 1808, by which Your Memorialist will loose the payment for 18 Months labour vizt. from 27th June to 26 December 1808, during which period the business of the Office was so pressing as to oblige him to hire assistance."
