Report of the commissioners appointed to expend the sum of £250 granted for providing furniture for the public rooms in the Government House. They find that "the Lt. Governor had already imported from England furniture suitable for those rooms to a considerable amount that he had also purchased some Articles of furniture proper for the same rooms from the late Lt. Governor and that several Articles were still wanting to complete the furniture of each of the before mentioned rooms the Commissioners, finding the sum of money placed at their disposal totally inadequate to pay for the furniture already provided proposed on the part of the Province to take on account of the Province of the furniture imported from England so much as would amount to the sum of £250…but…the Lt. Governor declined separating the furniture so provided from England." They therefore took an estimate of furniture imported, that purchased from the late Lieutenant-Governor, and the probably cost of such as will still be wanting "which they submit to your Honour’s Consideration that such steps may be taken respecting this business as shall be fit and proper and the Commissioners on consideration of the foregoing Circumstances have expended no part of the Sum granted finding it totally Inadequate to defray the Expence of furnishing those Rooms in a proper and Suitable manner."
