5 December 1808

Petition of John Henderson, relating his efforts to build a bridge over Sackville River. After his first effort was washed away he constructed a temporary one, and then petitioned the House for compensation, and further orders as to whether he should proceed with the contract or be released from it. "but a difference of Sentiment Seemingly prevailed between His Majesty’s Council and Assembly and prevented your memorialists from proceeding any farther in the business while at the Same time, they had a heavy bill of Expences to withstand." They have continued to keep the temporary bridge in repair. "They therefore pray the House will with its usual Generosity and Goodness take their Case into Consideration and relieve them from their Embarrassed Situation, and devise some means of putting the said Bridge in the thorough State of perminance and Safety for the Honour of the House and the benefit of the public." Signed. (24 Dec). Resolve of the committee that the contract be renewed and Henderson be paid £300 on its completion.
