Petition of Edward Whitman and 886 other inhabitants of Annapolis County suggesting the use of paper currency. They "have for some Years seriously felt the effects flowing from a Scarcity of a circulating Medium, by being cramped in their Commercial and Agricultural pursuits – Your Petitioners beg leave therefore to submit to this Honorable House the Propriety of their adopting a judicious System of Paper Credit to a certain extent, the utility of which Your Petitioners are fully confident would soon be diffused throughout the Province by enabling the Farmer to extend his improvements and the Merchant his Trade, in proportion to the real property and natural resources of the Country." (See committee report, 21 Dec.)
