Copy of a letter from the Speaker to Cumberland. In receipt of his letter on 27 Feb., which was laid before the House, who request his best endeavours to procure answers from Govt. On the subjects previously recommended to his attention. Emphasizes the need for a free port, and of inducing Govt. to give up project of removing Dartmouth whalers. Letter continues in strain similar to that of Uniacke to Lawrence (no. 20). Regrets that he bears so large a share of the provincial debt, but assures him that the province will soon be able to pay.
