The committee "can by no means think of accepting Your resignation, or choosing any other person in Your stead they will patiently wait till your health is re established, and that You can with propriety attend the Meetings of the said committee - the loss of a Man of Your Abilities, would be sensible felt by the Association in general - and the Committe beg particularly to acquaint You, that it is their General Opinion it would be so." 191. Gideon White to Lt. Pagett He has had word of Pagett but his letter did not reach White. Has been ill but hopes to sail soon for Jamaica. Lord Charles Montagu has arrived with news that White's battalion are to be drafted into his regiment. Asks his good offices in obtaining payment out of Col. Odell's estate of White's bill. "The uncommon close of this War has distracted every Good man - you can have no adequate Idea of the confusion here." Further remarks on military, business and personal matters. "I would inclose you the papers but there is nothing in them the Rebells are determined not to allow the Loyalists to returne to take possession of their Estates, a Circumstance many of us hope will be the Cause of damning them Yet. I think we may have a little amusement ere long with them. God direct it may be so." Holograph.

''from Rocks & Sands and Dangers of the Deep here we are - but the pleasing prospect of soon Emigrating to the Regions of Port Roseway - you wisely foresaw into futurity and provided yourself a peacefull asylum in those days of Trouble; you are fortunately absent from a place where you once enjoy'd some tolerable degree of Comfort among a sociable sett of friends but Dr Charles those days are past & unless a Man can reconcile it to himself to sit in Company with a sett of D-'d Scoundrels you must confine yourself to the Limits of your Chamber-for since this inglorious peace the Town, nay every public house is infested with the Rebellious Inhabitants of every State, not less than 700 from Different places are Strolling the Streets of this Town daily.
To-morrow the first Division sail for Nova Scotia, 3000 Refugees with their families & Thompson's Kings American Dragoons compose this Division-The next Embarkation takes all Provincial Officers & Men that are willing to go-I quit this damnd Country with Pleasure...'' Personal Matters. Holograph.
