mation was to be expected; but to many of these letters no answers have yet been received, of those which have & which accompany this report five contain very full & satisfactory information which tends strongly to strengthen the opinion which was formed of the possibility of civilizing some of these unfortunate people so as to ennable them to procure with little assistance the means of their own support.

Of the sum of £350 voted last session for the relief of the Indians your Committee have expended £141..14..2 as appears by the acct. & vouchers herewith. These are yet unsettled some small demands to an inconsiderable amount.

Your Committee by leave to observe that without perseverance no plan of any magnitude or importance can be carried into effect much less one which presents at the first view so many obstacles as the present, notwithstanding which difficulties your Committee firmly trust that by continuing a corse of prudent measures with regard to these
