The Indians are fencing in their feilds which they will nearly finish this week, and are anxiously looking for the seeds you promised them when you were here; they likewise want a Cart, Plough, and Harrow, without which they cannot do much, as at present they are hardly able to obtain provisions for their families, and are totally unable to hire those Instruments. Some of them have likewise applied to me for hoes but as I could not supply them with anything untill I heard from you, I should be glad if you would write me word what to do, as I should not wish them to leave their lands before they get their Crops in; this has been a hard winter for them, but I endeavour to encourage them to plant what they can, that they may be better off next winter but to do it they must be supplied with potatoes. Francis [Saleme?] wishes to know if he can have the Cow now which he was to have this Spring - as the Indians were unable to get hay to keep the oxen as they ought have been, and as they were [muched?] worked down I took them away and have got a person to keep them for a while, when I hope they may be able to perform their ploughing [etc] and as soon as I find sufficient feed
