Halifax May 8, 1843
My dear Sir,
The first 4 Indians on your list I know to have land chopped, and therefore you may give them 10 Bushels of Potatoes each. The next 7 may have 5 Bushels each. Jack Glode has no clearing, and therefore cannot want any, except to eat, and I have no authority to furnish provisions.
You may, if Charles Glode prefers to spend the price of the corn which was promised to him, say about £3. or £4 in assisting to build his House. This a great point to get them out of the wigwams. Enquire of Henry, if he comes to you, on when his house is to be finished, and he hears that measures are taken, through Mr. Kingston, or the nearer settler, that the land for the Fairy Lake Settlement rarely reaches those for whom it is designed.
I am afraid I cannot afford to buy the land for Jack Glode. If Charles builds, impress upon him the importance of having a frost proof cellar this House.
