Thomson has handed me the enclosed plan of an actual survey made by him of the Indian lands. It appears there is little left for them and that it is in detached blocks. As they are situated thus, their resorting to these settlements brings them into collision with the other inhabitants and when the place is more improved the evil will be encreased. They feel that their lands have been encroached on, and it is not strange that they would retaliate and annoy those they consider intruders. Such Mr. [Meruson?] informs has been the case, and the inhabitants near to them suffer by their petty annoyances. He and I have been talking the matter over, and he is strongly of opinion it would be a good measure to purchase [a block - crossed out] for them a block of land whereon they would all settle and thus neither [or?] intrude on the others.
