Halifax 13th. April 1853,
Sir,
I beg leave to state for the information of His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor , that I have been six years Commissioner of Indian Affairs and in that period my labors although frequently very disagreeable have been steady in an endeavour to relieve the distresses of the unfortunate Aborigines.

For this public service I have received no compensation, as no provision is made for it by the legislature. I trust therefore that His Excellency will now consider favorably my claims to compensation and grant me the small allowance of ten pounds a year for the time I have served in the above office.

As my private affairs will hereafter prevent me from being serviceable to the Government in the above capacity I beg that His Excellency will accept my resignation and permit me to thank you for the aid you have always been ready to afford in relieving the wants of the dwindling Micmacs.
