Consulted a Medical gentleman who gave
his candid opinion that my bill was
by no means extravagant . All the Medical
Gentlemen who were informed of my
Services have expressed themselves to the
Same effect

I have been [induced?] to submit these
facts to his Excellencys consideration
From the government only can I seek
redress having been employed by it
My professional character, which hitherto
has been unimpeachable, was attacked
I have been represented as an extortioner
and this circulated amongst my friends
In the city & country

To meet the objections raided against
the propriety of building an Hospital
the supplying of Shoes, Flannels, &c.
the following will be sufficient

1st. That the inclemency of the
weather demanded a Shelter for the
dying Indians that it was necessary
to build it as near to their wigwams [underlined]
as possible Since their removal in
the open air would be almost certain
to produce death-

2nd That warm clothing was essential
from the nature of the disease, not
only for those sick but as a
preventitive to the fatal termination
of it. [the disease - erased] The successful result is
corroborative of this opinion-
