Letter from Rev. E.W. Morris to Lt. Gov. Maitland regarding the condition of several Mi'kmaq families living near Rawdon. Also encloses a petition from Louis Benjamin Paul Pominout requesting relief for the 200 Mi'kmaq encamped at Winsdor, Newport, Kennetcook and Rawdon, for whom he is Chief. Noted that the petition was answered.

Rawdon Jany 17th 1831

Dear Sir

When in Halifax a short time since I had some conversation with my honoured Father respecting the
destitute condition of a number of Indians now on the glebe in Rawdon. The most probable mode of
obtaining speedy relief for them which suggested itself to his mind was to mention the subject to you.
Upon his doing so, he obtained from you on the part of his Excellency the ready offer of relief to the
amount of ten pounds. This sum would have been gladly and thankfully accepted by me in behalf of the poor Indians had I not been afraid of the difficulties attending the Office of Almoner to them. Since my return to Rawdon having their destitute condition before my eyes, and having been request
