Fort Clarence

Piers note: No. 206. Fort Clarence: Entrance to inner part of fort, showing Tower. Fort Clarence: Escarp of West Ditch, showing Postern which leads, by way of a ramped, curved passage, up to interior of fort. Over the postern is a granite kingstone inscribed VR 1864-8, the date when the fort was reconstructed. Above appears the sandstone Martello Tower (Duke of Clarence's Tower), the basement of which, used as a magazine, is underground. Looking Southeast from rampart of casemate battery.
