Piers note: No. 326. Naval Cemetery: "Shannon" Monument, western side, to men of H.M.S. "Shannon", who died at Halifax after her action with U.S. Frigate "Chesapeake", 1 June 1813; photograph taken about 1882. Looking East (southern end of Naval Hospital in left distance). The inscription on the tablet on the west side, may be easily read with lens; the original inscription is on eastern side. Initials of surnames of men are on the Footstone. "The Stone Slab on the opposite face was Recovered, Restored and Fixed on this Granite Monument by Vice Admiral Sir Rodney Mundy K.C.B. Commander-in-Chief and James Ashby C.B. Secretary. July - 1868".
