Piers note: No. 273. Fort Clarence: Construction of Gun Pit for Moncreiff gun, showing mould-boards in place for pouring the cement to form walls of the circular pit. This is precisely the same pit shown completed in No. 274. Two of these pits were constructed in ramparts of the inner fort. This particular pit is the one shown to left in No. 275.
