Napoleon survives Russia, threats continue

Despite his defeat in Russia at the end of 1812, Napoleon remained a potent foe, prompting this pessimistic assessment of the war. But by October, France’s armies had been smashed. Meanwhile, Britain’s war with America steadily escalated.
