Bliss begins on a humorous note, "The first thing to be done on the journey was to buy a flask of fire-water at Kentville. This lent much moral stamina to the expedition." He also gives a wry account of "these boys" having "me out on the river teaching me how to paddle." (He was in fact an experienced canoeist.) Bliss concludes by reporting that "Min is pretty well; I think the change will be good for her."
