the church is in the most dilapidated
condition. I allude to this matter because
I am convinced hat the existence of a
church in any place is a great inducement
to the Indians to remain in the
vicinity. Hence I think it would be
an advantage to them, even in a [illegible]
point of view, to keep in repair the
churches at the places mentioned, where
there are large tracts of land set apart for
their use. Unaided they are unable
to keep their places of worship in proper
repair, and the commissioner with the
very small amount at his disposal can afford [can afford - duplicate crossed out] them but very little assistance for that purpose. The same cause,
want of [?arrears], has placed it out of my
power up to the present to make any arrangement
for the instruction of the Indian children.

During the past year, I have expended
fifty eight pounds in purchasing seed
and in relieving the aged and infirm.
I enclose an account of the sums expended,

I remain [illegible]
[illegible] Edward Bathes
