Sir

Since my appointment to be Commissioner of Indian Affairs for the Western District, I have visited the Indians at Bear River, Shubenacadie and several other parts of the Province. I have endeavoured to [induce] them, whenever I thought it practicable, to settle on the Indians lands. For being able to carry out this object effectively

I am happy to be able to report favorably of the exertions of several families at Shubenacadie and Bear River, who have been able to maintain themselves during the past year by the produce of their lands. I am in hopes that their example will have its effect upon others.

Their churches at Bear River and
Shubenacadie stand very much in
need of repairs at the latter place
especially.
